Spoilt For Choice: Upcoming Skoda Cars in 2022

For the Czech carmaker Skoda, 2021 was an active year. The company reported triple-digit growth, registering sales of 23,858 in 2021. And to keep it going, they seem to have big plans for the year 2022. To that end, Skoda India has planned several launches that include both new offerings and updates to existing ones. Skoda Kodiaq

Skoda’s already kicked things off this year with the launch of the Kodiaq’s facelift. The brand’s top-end SUV gets a few internal and external updates. But perhaps the largest update is the switch from its 2.0-litre diesel powertrain to a 2.0-litre petrol one. The new engine powering the Skoda Kodiaq is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine capable of putting down 187PS of power and 320Nm of torque. The powerhouse is mated to an automatic, seven-speed transmission and an AWD system. The Skoda Kodiaq gets three variants priced starting at ₹34.99 lakhs (Ex-Showroom).

Skoda Slavia

Skoda’s slated to come out with a new sedan expected to be launched in March 2022. The mid-sized Skoda Slavia aims to replace the previous Skoda Rapid. It is based on the same platform as the Skoda Kushaq. The Slavia is Skoda’s second offering under the India 2.0 project. According to Skoda’s claims, the Slavia will benefit from localisation, leading to possibly quite a competitive pricing. Powering the Slavia will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI engine. The engine will be capable of putting down 114PS of power and 175Nm of torque. It will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission with six-speed automatic transmission options available as well. The Slavia will also get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine option producing 148PS and 250Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic DSG. The Skoda Slavia will be priced around the ₹10.49 – 17.59 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) mark.

Skoda Updates

While these two offerings have been revealed in the market, Skoda is also slated to update its existing offerings of the Skoda Kushaq SUV as well as Skoda’s premium sedans, the Octavia and the Superb. Besides that, speculations suggest that Skoda will also be updating its hatchback offering, the Skoda Fabia, and may also come out with two new launches this year – the Skoda Scala and the Skoda Kamiq.
